Introduction
The non-magnetic drill collar is made of low-carbon high-chromium
manganese alloy steel. It is refined by strict chemical
composition, and its mechanical properties are obtained through
forging. When the magnetic field strength is 1×105 / 4marea / m,
the relative permeability bias of the non-magnetic drill collar
r≤1.010. Magnetic induction intensity gradient of non-magnetic
drill collar at random intervals of 100mm along the inner hole
≤0.05
Non-magnetic drill collar has special design requirements, so it
will have unique corrosion resistance problems. The drill collar is
the bottom of the drill string. Its weight will generate a force on
the drill bit, which can be drilled out, and the stiffness of the
drill collar can prevent force transmission. Traditional drill
collars are made of alloy steel, and like other parts of the drill
string, their corrosion usually does not cause any problems unless
they are threaded. A typical drill collar is 30 feet long and 4 to
9 inches in diameter.
Advantages
Since all magnetic measuring instruments can sense the geomagnetic
field in the borehole when measuring the borehole direction, the
measuring instruments must be in a non-magnetic environment.
However, in the drilling process, the drilling tool is often
magnetic and carries a magnetic field, which affects the magnetic
measuring instrument and cannot obtain the correct wellbore
trajectory measurement data. Non-magnetic environment can be
realized by using non-magnetic drill collar, which has the
characteristics of drill collar during drilling.
